JOHNSTON SUFFOCATES IN SAND
WORKMAN IS BURIED IN SEWER TRENCH
[part of word gone] ving sand, George Johnston, about 65, E2208 Fourth avenue [word missing] located in a sewer trench at the rear of N5515 [word missing] on.
[Word and part of address missing] 315 Wall, heard Johnston cry for help and ran to get a shovel. When he returned with [words missing] completely covered by a second cave-in of earth.
After digging for a few minutes in an unsuccessful effort to find the buried man, Jarren ran to the home of Fred Hunger, N5503 Wall, and got him to help. Hunger notified the police and then went to the trench were he and Jarren uncovered Johnson's head and shoulders before the officers and emergency hospital attendants arrived.
Steward P. C. Milburn immediately examined Johnston and found he was dead.
The body was extricated and efforts were made to revive life. The coroner's office was notified.

He was a member of the Reorganized Church of Latter Day Saints. Funeral Friday, 1 p.m. from the Reorganized Church of the Latter Day Saints, Third and Smith street, Rev. Baldwin officiating. Interment Riverside Park. Hazen & Jaeger in charge."
