Squire Allison Wins In GOP Grant Contest

Lytton Also Named; Democrats Nominate McCauley, Fowler

Squire Eugene Allison of Chester won an easy nomination for another term in a sex - way Republican race in Grant District, according to final reports of Hancock County's primary voting Tuesday. Each party nominated two candidates for justice of the peace and constable in the three districts. Democrats had a four - way race in Grant. Grant District, which embraces Chester and Newell, also nominated Harry Lytton of Newell as Allison's GOP runningmate in the November election. They were far ahead of Arthur Grogg, John L. Owen, Joseph Dickey and George H. Gillespie. The vote was:

Chester Man Due Hearing

A Chester area man is slated for a hearing tonight before Squire Eugene Allison for allegedly assisting two other Chester men in thefts from cars in Newell last week. Artie Edwin Bates, 21, of Chester R.D. 1 posted a $100 bond for a hearing tonight on the charge of aiding and abetting Robert C. Looman, 29, of Carolina Ave. and Rex Waugh,19, of near 1st St. for thefts from cars parked in Newell Wednesday. Looman was fined $30 and costs and sentenced to 30 days in the County Jail Friday night by Squire Allison for removing a tire and wheel from a car parked at a lot at 5th St., Newell..............

W. Eugene Allison

W. Eugene Allison, 62, of 270 Indiana Ave., Chester, a former Justice of the Peace, died Friday at 1 p.m. at Presbyterian Hospital, Pittsburgh, following an illness of four months. Mr. Allison was born April 26, 1915, in Chester, a son of Walter C. Allison and Nellie Bunting Allison. He was employed at the Columbia Gas Transmission Corp., Clinton; with 31 years service. He was a member of the Quarter Century Club, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6450 and the Westminster Presbyterian Church where he served as a deacon and a trustee. He was a social member of American Legion Post 121. In addition to his widow, Mrs. Marjorie Herron Allison, whom he married Aug. 15, 1936, in New Cumberland, survivors include a son, William N. Allison of Chester; two sisters, Mrs. Kenneth (Jo) Kimble of Chester and Mrs. Harry (Carrie) Mickits of Hollywood, Fla., and three grandchildren. Services will be held Monday at 1 p.m. from the Westminster church by Dr. George Espy. Burial will be in Locust Hill Cemetery. Friends may call at the Arner Funeral Chapel, Chester, Sunday afternoon and night where the family will be present from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
