Born Eliezer Henkin to Rabbi Yosef Eliuahu Henkin. Noted constitutional law, international law and human rights scholar. Law clerk to United States Supreme Court Associate Justice Felix Frankfurter from 1946 to 1947. University Professor Emeritus, Columbia University. BA, Yeshiva (1937), LLB, Harvard (1940), LHD, Yeshiva 1963, LLD, Columbia (1995, JD (honorary) Brooklyn Law School (1997). Awarded the Silver Star for action while serving in the U.S. Army in France in 1944 during World War II for convincing a 78 man German unit to surrender to his much smaller 13 man artillery observation unit.
Note: Immigrated to the United States in 1923.
