Abraham was the son of Abraham Banta and Divertje Wortendyke. Abraham and his wife, Cornelia became members of the Reformed Lutheran Church at Ramapo 13 Nov 1841, and he was elected an Elder March 1851. He was a farmer in Hohokus Twp, Bergen Co NJ.
