Eva Louise Olson was born in Highland Prairie, MN June 19, 1877 and died April 23, 1979. She lived to be almost 102 years old. She attended rural school and was a graduate of South Dakota State College in 1897. At the time of her death she was the oldest living graduate of SD State College. She taught schools in Washington, North Dakota and Minnesota. In 1910 she moved to South St. Paul, MN and became Principal of Central Grade School and Director of their night school. On Dec. 10, 1940 she was given the Distinguished Service Honor by the Kiwaniana. The award and plaque was given by Governor Harold A. Stassen. It was given for work among the foreign born residents introducing them to American principles and ideals, "For her unselfish, intelligent and kindly service given to the community of South St. Paul." She was again honored by the South St. Paul schools in conjunction with the Norwegian Susquecentennial at the age of 98. She celebrated her 100th birthday with many relatives and friends while a resident of Luther Hall in Minneapolis.
She is survived by her nephews Victor and Andrus Norman, Gordon Olson and nieces Clarissa Norman and Alvia Iverson. As well as several grandnieces and grandnephews. The funeral will be held Friday at 11am at Luther Hall, 2636 Park Ave. Interment will be in Greenwood Cemetery in Brookings, S.D.
