WILL OF SAMUEL DENT IN FRANKLIN CO., MO.
In the name of God Amen. I Samuel Dent of the county of Franklin in the state of Missouri being now old and infirm in body but of sound mind and disposing memory knowing as I do that I must shortly die, do make constitute and ordain this my last will and testament and do hereby revoke all other wills by me made.

First I give my soul to God who gave it and my body to the earth, to be buried in a Christian manner.

Second I give and bequeath to my wife Patsy, my Negro man, George and Milly and Negro woman Raney and her two children, James Alfred and William Anderson and the plantation on which I now live during her life and all the stock of cattle, hogs, sheep, horses and so forth and farming utensils that I now own or may possess at my decease. The said Negro woman Milley is to be free at the death of my wife.

Third, I give to my wife, Patsy, all my household and kitchen furniture.

Fourth, I give to my son, Baley Dent, my negro boy, Bob.

Fifth, I give to my son, Henry Dent, my negro boy, Tandy.

Sixth, I give to my son, Josiah Dent, my negro boy, Johnston.

Seventh, I give to my daughter, Lavina Beatty, and to her children, my Negro girl, Grace, and her issue forever.

Eighth, I give to my daughter, Ann Parks, my Negro girl, Eddy, for her and her children forever.

Ninth, I give to my daughter, Malinda Johnson (wife of Dyson Johnson) and to her children, my negro Fanny and her issue forever.

Tenth, after the death of my wife Patsy, I give to my daughter, Olly, the Negro woman Raney, if she be then living and in case that said negro woman should be dead, then it is my will that Olly shall have out of the estate that may be left at my wife's death, the worth of said Negro woman, Raney.

Eleventh, I give to my daughter, Olly, the west half of the north east quarter of section eight, Township forty three, Range one west, containing eighty acres, and also a forty acre lot being the north east quarter of the north west quarter of section eight in township forty three, range one west to her and her heirs forever.

Twelfth, After paying my debts, it is my will that all the money I am now in possession of and that may be collected shall be kept and used by my wife as she thinks proper except so much as may be necessary to make the negroes before mentioned of equal value to each child.

Thirteenth, It is my will that my executor cause the negroes to be appraised by disinterested persons and that a sum of money be given to each one to make them all of one value, the money to be taken from that which I have now on hand or may be collected.

Fourteenth, I do hereby appoint Alexander Chambers executor of this my last will and testament and hope he will undertake the business and execute it strictly.

In testimony whereof I hereunto set my hand and seal the 8th day April 1834.
