Born Sept. 8, 1937, in Hagerstown, she was the daughter of the late Harry Nelson and Millie (Biser) Stickell.
She was a 1955 graduate of Hagerstown High School.
She retired from the U.S. Dept. of Commerce, where she worked for the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. She was previously employed at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore.
She was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary Fraternal Order of Eagles No. 694, the Ladies Auxiliary VFW 1936 and the Ladies Auxiliary Morris Frock American Legion Post 42.
She is survived by four nieces, DaEtta Smist of Chino Hills, Calif., Tessa J. Swope of Martinsburg, W.Va., Diana R. Lynn of Waynesboro, Pa., and Rebecca Barret of Chicopee, Mass.; and three nephews, Henry Nelson Stickell of Woodbridge, N.J., James A. Lynn Jr. of Hagers-town and Ricky L. Lynn of Hagerstown.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Chadbourne Denton Jr.; three sisters, Mildred E. Lynn, Ruby A. Cyr and Vivian L. Stickell; and one brother, Nelson Harry Stickell.
Burial was held Monday, Sept. 19, 2005, at Rest Haven Cemetery.
