*** Captain Tucker was a member of the 20th Tactical Air Support Squadron. On December 24, 1971, he was the pilot of a North American Rockwell Bronco (OV10-A) on a mission over Attopeu Province, Laos. His remains were not recovered. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.

***** Mike Tucker was an OV-10 Forward Air Controller stationed at Pleiku AB, RVN. I had scheduled Mike and his friend, Bill Finn, to fly the next to last sortie Christmas Eve, 1971.
Mike requested that he and I switch sorties so that he and Bill could fly the last sortie and watch the Christmas Eve fireworks over the Ho Chi Minh Trail in Laos. I accepted his offer. I came back. He and Bill did not. All the FACs at Pleiku flew max hours for the next 6 days searching for Mike and Bill, all to no avail. I believe that we may have found the crash site at one of the heaviest defended sites in our area, and a fast FAC in an F-4 thought so, too. But, recce photos analyzed by 7th AF did not seem to support the crash site theory.
Mike had only been at Pleiku for a few months, as I remember, when he was shot down. Bill had only been there a few weeks. Both were top notch aviators and officers.

1Lt. Timothy M. Tucker was the pilot and 1Lt. William R. Finn the co-pilot of an OV10 Bronco assigned a mission over Laos on Christmas Eve, 1971.
The OV10 Bronco was among the aircraft most feared by the Viet Cong and NVA forces, because whenever the Bronco appeared overhead, an air strike seemed certain to follow. Although the glassed-in cabin could become uncomfortably warm, it provided splendid visibility. The two-man crew had armor protection and could use machine guns and bombs to attack, as well as rockets to mark targets for fighter bombers.
Their mission took them over Attopeu Province, the extreme southeast province of Laos.
In 1973, the prisoners of war held in Vietnam were released. Laos was not part of the Paris agreement which ended American involvement in Indochina.
No prisoners held by the Lao were ever released.

Captain Tucker was a Covey Forward Air Controller assigned to the 20th Tactical Air Support Squadron at Da Nang and flying from Pleiku South Vietnam. He and Captain William Robert Finn were flying OV-10A S/N 67-14667 about 15 miles southwest of Muang Fangdeng in the extreme southern tip of Laos controlling fighters on a hot night insertion when they were shot down. A six-day search was conducted but nothing was found. Captain Tucker's body was not recovered.
