Obituary: CHARLES T. COFFMAN, SOMERSET BANKER, DIES
Charles T. Coffman, the executive vice president of Citizens National Bank in Somerset, died Saturday at Humana Hospital Lake Cumberland after a long illness. He was 56.
Coffman, who was in charge of commercial and real estate loans, joined the bank in 1950 in the bookkeeping department. He later became an assistant cashier, assistant vice president and, in 1970, vice president.
A couple of years later he was named branch manager of the Plaza Branch. In 1973 he returned to the main office as executive vice president. In 1979 he was elected to the bank's board of directors and was its secretary.
"He was a very knowledgeable banker," said James E. Haney Sr., the bank's chairman of the board. "He was very intelligent and did a lot behind the scenes."
Coffman, a member of First Baptist Church in Somerset, also had been treasurer of the Friends of the Pulaski County Library, was a former member of the Kiwanis Club, and chairman of fund-raising for the Bluegrass chapter of the Boy Scouts of America.
A resident of 110 Benelli Avenue, Coffman is survived by his wife, Margaret Claunch Coffman; a son, Tom Coffman of Dallas; and a niece.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Pulaski Funeral Home. Visitation will be after 6 p.m. today. Memorial contributions may be made to the Somerset-Pulaski County Community Hospice Program, Somerset Public Library,
Pisgah Cemetery or a favorite charity.
