Wesley was born in Spencer, Hamilton Co., OH.; not to be confused with Spencer, Medina Co., OH. Spencer was created in the 1840's to relieve the overcrowding of Columbia business transactions. It was named in honor of Col. Spencer of Columbia, OH. Wesley died at his home in New Albany at 1410 East Spring St. He was complaining of severe headaches and died. He was a member of Ivanhoe Lodge, Knights of Pythias, and the Knights of Secrecy. He was listed on New Albany, IN. 1880 census as Wesley Bird, occupation, painter. Listed on the 1900 New Albany, IN. census as Wesley J. Burd.

Obituary in The Courier-Journal Feb 4, 1908 p5 states he died in the early hours of the morning on the 3rd, due to rupture of blood vessels in the brain. Burial on the 5th.
