A lawyer, Overton came to the Nashville area in 1789. He, along with Generals Andrew Jackson and James Winchester, founded the city of Memphis, TN in 1819. His home Traveler's Rest, built in the 1790s is now an historic site. His wife, Mary (1782- 1862) was the daughter of General James White, founder of the city of Knoxville, TN. (bio by: Don Connelly)
