WILSON, ELBERT WOODROW - age 86 of Knoxville, passed away Saturday November 17, 2001. He was a retired US Marine Major, who proudly served in the South Pacific, China, Korea and Japan during World War II and the Korean War. He was also retired from the State of Tennessee where he served as the East Tennessee Area Coordinator of Civil Defense. He received his Masters degree from the University of Tennessee and was an avid follower of UT sports. The many stories that he told of his life and times have provided fond memories for his family and friends. His numerous projects kept him active until his death. He is preceded in death by his parents, Elbert Theaordric and Mary Ella Whaley Wilson of Trentville; brothers, Jack, Charlie and Zollie; sisters, Eldora Payne, Elangue Brown, Thenora McCarty, Cordelia, Audrey and Montalee Wilson. He is survived by his wife, Helen Patterson Wilson; son, Kyle Wilson, both of Knoxville; daughter and son-in-law, Tandy and Samuel Wilson; grandchildren, Kristen Rollins, Eric and Robert Wilson, all of Atlanta, Ga. Funeral service 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at Rose Mortuary Mann Heritage Chapel with Rev. Dr. Terry Kirby officiating. Family and friends will meet at Tennessee Veterans Cemetery at 11:45 a.m. Wednesday for a 12:00 p.m. interment service with Full Military Honors by Volunteer State Veterans Honor Guard. The family will receive friends from 6:00-7:30 p.m. Tuesday at Rose Mortuary Mann Heritage Chapel.
