Obituary, Charles L. Wicht – 15 November 1919
Following an illness of three months, Charles Lewis Wicht, for seven years a member of the Yonkers Police, died at 8 o'clock Saturday evening in his home, 23 Van Cortlandt Park Avenue. He was 33 years old.
It is thought that death was caused indirectly by possible internal injuries suffered about a year ago, when, while riding a motorcycle, chasing a speeding automobilist, he was thrown and sustained injuries which confined him in a hospital for three weeks. He recovered, apparently, and was on active duty up to three months ago.
He was born in this city, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Wicht. He was graduated from School No. 7. About 15 years ago he married Miss Henrietta Thomas, of this city; his wife and three daughters, Margaret, Dorothy and Ruth, survive.
His parents, five brothers, two sisters, are living. They are Theodore W. Wicht, Superintendent of Masonic Temple; Henry A. and John Edward Wicht of the Yonkers Fire Department; William E. Wicht of this city; Frank A. Wicht of Newport RI; Mrs. Doretta Schanck of New York City; Miss Elizabeth Wicht of this city.
Charles was a member of the Dayspring Presbyterian Church and of its Athletic Club; he was fond of athletic games, especially baseball and basketball. He belonged to Yonkers Lodge, I.O.D.F.; this Lodge held services last evening, at his late home.
The funeral will be held tomorrow afternoon at 2:30, in the Dayspring Presbyterian Church; the pastor, Rev. William Crawford, will officiate. Interment, Oakland Cemetery.
Members of the Police Department will act as pallbearers.
