| Birth: | Feb. 4, 1841 | | Death: | 1917 |  Civil War Union Army Officer. Born in Massachusetts. Served in the Civil War as Captain and commander of the 9th Massachusetts Volunteer Battery. Had promoinent role on the second day of the Battle of Gettysburg holding off the Confederate assault near the Trostle House and was terrible wounded. He was rescued from the field by Bugler Charles Reed (who received the Congressional Medal of Honor for this action). At his funeral the surviving members of the 1st Minnesota Volunteer Infantry regiment were his color guard, and the flag of the 9th Massachusetts Battery was draped on casket. (bio by: Ethan F.
