Son of Nathaniel Shiercliffe and Catherine Gower.

Buried in the south chancel floor. Aged 62 years.

During his possession of Whitley, the sundial was installed. It bears the initials of Thomas Shiercliffe and the date 1740. It is one of two sundials in local buildings known to have spy holes drilled in them. Thomas was a very rich man who left £2,500, a massive sum, to four of his daughters.
