Civil War Union Brevet Brigadier General, US Congressman. Served in the Civil War as Colonel and commander of the 111th Illinois Volunteer Infantry. He was brevetted Brigadier General, US Volunteers on February 28, 1865. He was elected to represent Illinois' 16th District in the United States House of Representatives, serving from 1873 to 1875.
