| Birth: | Feb. 5, 1825 | | Death: | Oct. 25, 1896 |  Civil War Union Brevet Brigadier General, US Congressman. He was admitted to the bar in 1849 and elected a member of the Indiana State legislature in 1858. At the start of the Civil War, he was appointed Colonel of the 82nd Indiana Infantry and served until the fall of Atlanta. He then commanded a brigade in the 14th Army Corps and took part in General Sherman's march to the sea. For distinguished service, he was brevetted Brigadier General of US Volunteers, on March 13, 1865.
