| Birth: | Mar. 1, 1825 | | Death: | Oct. 3, 1889 |  Civil War Union Brevet Brigadier General, US Congressman. From 1858 to the start of the Civil War, he was a member of the Minnesota State Senate. In 1862, he enlisted and was Commissioned Lieutenant Colonel in the 6th Regiment, Minnesota Volunteer Infantry. He served with the 6th Minnesota the entire war in campiagnes through Missouri, Arkansas and on the frontier. In 1864, he was promoted Colonel in command of the Military District of West Mississippi, serving until the end of the war. For distingished service, he was brevetted Brigadier General of US Voulunteers in March 1865. After the war, he engaged in the wholesale paper business and was member of the Republican National Committee, 1868 to 1871. In 1871, he was elected as a Republican to the Forty-second and Forty-third Congresses, serving until 1875. (bio by: John "J-Cat" Griffith)
