Vern D. Avery, 89, of Camden, died at 4:10 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 22,1977 at the Brethren’s Home in Flora. Born in Clinton County Dec. 4, 1887, he was the son of Elwood M. and Nellie I. Davis Avery. He was married to Pearl Johnson on Mar. 4, 1911, who died on Jan. 1967. A farmer and former employee on the Carroll County Highway Department, he has his own shop for 15 years in his home called Avery’s Bait and Tackle Shop. A member of the Burlington Christian Church, he is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Clayton Abbott of Lebanon and Mrs. Robert Thayer of Yorba Linda, California; two brothers, Thomas and Leslie of rural Frankfort; three grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. One sister and two brothers preceded him in death. Friends may call after 4 p.m. Thursday. Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Friday at the Sullivan Funeral Home in Camden with the Rev. Ray French officiating. Burial in Camden Cemetery.
