OBITUARY:

Regina Koch Hodler passed away peacefully in her sleep early Monday morning, December 28, 1970 at Cheyenne Nursing Home, Jamestown. She was 85 years, 2 months and 5 days old. Regina Missie Magdalena was born October 23, 1885, the daughter of Daniel and Marie Bachtle Koch. Her birthplace was Jewell City, Kansas. She was the oldest of 14 children, of which nine girls lived to adulthood. Shortly after her birth, the family moved to Beloit and farmed in Mitchell County where the rest of the children were born after 1888. Surviving sisters are Hilda Vetter, Edna Birch, Elizabeth Metcalf, Clara Wehl, all of Beloit and Esther Berneking, Formoso. Regina Koch graduated from Beloit High School in 1904 and taught at the rural Round Top and Hyde schools in Mitchell County. In 1908 Regina Koch married John William Hodler in Beloit and they lived in Mitchell Co. where Rexford D. Hodler was born. In 1912 the family moved to a farm southeast of Tulsa, Okla., where Paul William Hodler was born. After the accidental death in 1913 of J.W. Hodler, the widow, Regina, and her two boys returned to Beloit. July 10, 1918 Regina married Fred A. Hodler and to this union Margaret Marie and Berniece Regina were born. Fred Hodler died in 1958. She was a life long member of Zion Lutheran Church serving as organist in her youth. Her understanding heart was always sympathetic with the problems of her children and her wide circle of friends. She helped organize both the Sunshine Club and the Solomon Valley Home Demonstration Unit and was active in them until prevented by advanced years. After semi retirement, she and Fred spent winters in Florida, Texas and Arizona, where they gathered an even wider circle of friends and with whom she still kept up a correspondence. Surviving are: Mr. and Mrs. Rexford Hodler, Beloit; Mr. and Mrs. Paul W. Hodler, Washington, D.C.; Mr. and Mrs. Clifford Leighton (Margaret) Wichita; Mr. and Mrs. Glenn Kearns (Berniece), Salina. Also, 14 grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. Mr. and Mrs.Dale Galliart (Mary Ann Hodler) and sons, Mike and Mark; Mr. and Mrs. Jensby (Jean Hodler) and children, Jeff, Ronnie, and Diana; John and Barbara Hodler; Mr. and Mrs. James Guthrie (Karlee Ann Hodler) and children, Scott and Juli; Mr. and Mrs. David Bryden (Pam Hodler); Trudy, Cynthia, Gregory and Patricia Leighton, Maclin Ianne, Sheryl and Leelin Kearns. Pall bearers were Dale Galliart, James Jensby, John Hodler, John Corman, Gregory Leighton and Maclin Kearns.
