Trumpeter, Company L, 7th US Cavalry. Killed in action during the Battle of the Little Big Horn, along with General George A. Custer and most of the 7th Cavalry.

He originally enlisted on 1 December 1872, at age 21, in Louisville, KY, listing his previous occupation as Laborer. He was 5 feet, 7 inches tall, and had hazel eyes, brown hair and a dark complexion. He was not married. During the battle, his company was part of the rear part of Custer's column, and his unit was wiped out just east of Last Stand Hill. Originally buried where they fell, the bodies were reinterred in July 1877 in a mass grave on top of Last Stand Hill.
