He enlisted as a Private in Company H, Third Regiment, New Jersey Infantry in 1917, and served overseas as a captain and advanced to the rank of lieutenant colonel until he was discharged with the rank of colonel in 1946. Elected to Congress from 1927-1931. Elected Governor of New Jersey, 1935-1938. Governor during the Trail of the Century of Bruno Hauptmann accused of kidnapping the Lindbergh baby which ruined his political career. Died in New York City (bio by: Robert)
