SARAH NANCY (BILLINGS) ANDERS
Sarah Nancy Billings was born in Chicago, Ill. August 15, 1849, and died in Todd co., S.D. May 18, 1934, aged 84 years, 9 months and 3 days.
When four years old, she, with her parents, moved to Floyd county, Iowa, where she lived until she married John Paine, January 1st, 1863, they after their marriage taking up their residence in Wells, Minnesota.
Several years later, she with her husband and children came to Nebraska and made their home in Holt county, near Stuart.
December 1st, 1898, her husband passed away and 14 years later in 1913 she was married the second time to John Anders. He too, preceded her in death.
About nine months ago and after two years residence in Missouri, she came to make her hoe with her daughter, Mrs. Will Ratigan, in Valentine; the Ratigans moving a few months since to Todd county, S.D.
When 11 years of age she united with the Methodist Episcopal church at Nora Springs, Iowa. She continued her membership in that denomination till death. She leaves to mourn her death seven children; Mrs. Lydia Beers of Hedgeville, Montana; Stephen A. Paine of Stuart, Neb.; Mrs. Phoebe Bonsill of Bend, Oregon; Chauncey Paine of Charles City, Ia.; Mrs. Will Ratigan of Lakeview, S.D.; Willie Paine of Nora Springs, Ia.; and Bert Paine of Atkinson, Neb.; also 43 grandchildren, a number of great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were conducted by Rev. B.D. Hanscom in the Methodist Episcopal church at Valentine, Monday afternoon at 2:00 o'clock. Interment was made in Mt. Hope cemetery.
