Hugh Bittner Hege, 98, of Homewood Retirement Community, Hagerstown, Md., died Tuesday, Aug. 18, 1998, in Washington County Hospital, Hagerstown.
He formerly lived at 43 Roessner Ave., Hagerstown.
Born Jan. 21, 1900, near Marion, he was a son of the late Edward B. and Margaret Grove Hege.
He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Hagerstown.
Mr. Hege attended Cumberland Valley State Normal School, Shippensburg (now Shippensburg University). He graduated from the former Columbia Business College, Hagerstown.
In 1966, he retired from Supreme Concrete Block and Products Inc. He also worked for Stickell's Mill.
He was a member of Friendship Lodge 84, AF&AM, since 1926; Ithiel Royal Arch Chapter 27, RAM, for which he was past high priest, secretary and sentinel; Palestine Council 16, Royal and Select Master; St. Bernard Commandery 9, Knights of Templer, for which he had been an officer; Ali Ghan Temple, AAONMS of Cumberland, Md.; Hagerstown Shrine Club; Hagerstown Forest 95, Tall Cedars of Lebanon, for which he was a past scribe; and the American Association of Retired Persons.
Edna E. Hege, his first wife, died in 1945, Leone S. Hege, his second wife, died in 1981.
Surviving are two nieces, Irene Small of Knoxville, Tenn., and Ann Yankopoulos of Muskegon, Mich.; two nephews, John H. Lehman of Waynesboro and Edward P. Hege of Sacramento, Calif.; and cousins. Three sisters and two brothers also preceded him in death.
Burial will be Friday in Salem Lutheran Church Cemetery, Marion.
