Obituary, The New York Times, 28 Oct 1947:

Boston, Oct. 27 Samuel Crowther of Sunapee, N. H., journalist and author, died here today in the New England Baptist Hospital after a long illness at the age of 67. A regular contributor of articles to leading American magazines, he collaborated with Henry Ford in the preparation of the latter's "My Life and Work" and "Edison As I Knew Him," and with Harvey Firestone on "Men and Rubber."

Born in Philadelphia, Mr. Crowther attended the Friends School there, later receiving from the University of Pennsylvania the degrees of B. S., 1901, and LL. B., 1904. In college he won his varsity letters in football and rowing, and was a member of the university's crew that distinguished itself in the Henley Regatta. In 1905 his "American Rowing," the first history of the sport in this country, was published.

In 1913 Mr. Crowther was on the staff of The Boston Post, in 1918-1919 he represented The New York Tribune and System Magazine in England and Germany. During his journalistic career he interviewed many of America's industrial leaders. Since 1932 he had been associated with the United States Steel Corporation in an advisory capacity.

Surviving are his widow, who was Mary M. [J.] Owens of New York at their marriage in 1914; a son, Samuel 3rd, New York newspaper man, and two grandchildren.
