William P. Davis, 79, of Road 150E died Friday, March 30, 2001, at his farm near Columbus.
Mr. Davis was a farmer and a lifelong resident of Bartholomew County. He was a 1939 Columbus High School graduate and a 1943 Purdue University graduate with a bachelor's degree in agriculture.
He had served as a member of the Planning and Zoning Commission, Soil and Water Board and school board. He was county commissioner from 1977 to 1984.
Mr. Davis was a member of First Presbyterian Church, serving as deacon, trustee and elder.
The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at First Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Richard Underdahl–Peirce officiating. Calling will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at Myers Funeral Service, Hathaway–Myers Chapel on Pearl Street, and 9 a.m. until service time Tuesday at the church. Burial will be at Garland Brook Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association.
Mr. Davis was born in Bartholomew County June 13, 1921, the son of Oliver Perry and Edith Chitty Davis. He married Ann Crump September 20, 1947, in Columbus. She died June 6, 1989.
Survivors include a son, Larry W. Davis of Ashville, Ohio; a daughter, Louise Grady of Louisville, Ky.; eight grandchildren; and 10 great–grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Linda Lykins.
