Birth: Jan. 6, 1796
North Carolina, USA
Death: Aug. 26, 1826

Alabama, USA

Daughter of Col. George Fisher and Catherine (Sossaman) Fisher. Granddaughter of Frederick Fisher Jr. and Ann McBride.
Ann Amelia Fisher married Jack F. Ross 11 Feb 1817 in Saint Stevens, Washington County, Alabama (then Mississippi Territory).

Her friend Sarah Haynsworth Gayle of Claiborne married Alabama Governor John Gayle and named her daughter after her when she died. Amelia Ross Gayle married Confederate Gen. Josiah Gorgas, of Mobile and Tuscaloosa, and was the mother of Gen. William Crawford Gorgas who helped discover the cause of Yellow Fever. Sarah H. Gayle wrote in her Journal, October 1827 "My youngest darling bore, for three months, the name of Ellen, but when my friend died, with a thousand crowding emotions, I blotted it from the record & in its place wrote Amelia Ross." (Gayle-Gorgas Collection, Amelia Gayle Gorgas Library, University of Alabama.)

The book Six Miles to Charleston by Bruce Orr, page 109, states that Ann Amelia Fisher married Jack Ferrill Ross and that their son William Henry Ross was born in Alabama in December 1819. Mrs. Ross was a first cousin of John Fisher who married Lavinia Fisher in Charleston.
