Burial 06-Oct-2010.
Louise E. Kuhman passed away in her sleep, at the Provena Pine View Care Center, Saint Charles, Illinois on October 3rd, 2010 aged to 100 years, and 15 days. She was formerly a resident of Lake Geneva, Wisconsin (until the Fall of 2008). Born, Emma Louise Kuechler on the 18th of September 1910, in Barry, IL. She was the 5th child and youngest daughter of Charles Edward Kuechler and Mary Marie Stremmel. The youthful Louise resided at various communities across Central and West-Central Illinois, as her father pursued his career (an educator and Superintendent of Schools). She began her own, teaching at a "one-room" school (complete with a hand-pump over a well, and a coal-fired pot-belly stove) to which she drove on dirt roads, in her "Tin Lizzie" (model-T Ford). Always the adventurous sort, she traveled via a "vintage" propeller aircraft to Havana, Cuba, and to Europe by steamship in the 1930's (just prior to the outbreak of WW-II). Louise married Wilbur John Kuhman on the 15th of August 1940 at the home of her sister in Normal, Illinois. The couple took up housekeeping in Yorkville, IL at the Kuhman family home on East Van Emmon Street. They moved to East Center Street, Yorkville in 1952, and to Lake Geneva, WI in 1966. For many years, Louise operated a private Kindergarten in her Yorkville home. She again taught in the Illinois Public Schools, and then in Walworth County, WI until her retirement. She bore four children: Richard Ned (Colfax, WI), Jane Ann Wininger (St. Charles, IL), Gary Lee (Cable, WI), Robert Charles (Delavan, WI). She was preceded in death by her parents, siblings (Edith Marie Orr, Amy Adelaide Hollowell, Ernest Charles Kuechler, and Helen Elizabeth Scott), her husband, and son, Gary. She is survived by 8 grandchildren (Jill, Linda, Heidi, Tim, Claire, Anne, Helene, James), 6 great-grand children (Skye, Ben, Eli, Will, Rose, Victoire), various nieces and nephews, and many friends. Louise was a life-long member of the United Methodist church in both Yorkville IL, and Lake Geneva WI. Funeral arrangements and memorial services were coordinated by: The Larson-Nelson Funeral Home, Yorkville. Internment: at the side of her husband, "Webb", in Pavilion Cemetery, Yorkville.

"Pale withered hands that for many years
Had wrought for others, soothed the hurt of tears,
Rocked children's cradles, eased the fever's smart.
Dropped tenderest balm in many an aching heart,
Now calmly folded, like rose leaves pressed,
Above the snow and silence of her breast.
In mute appeal they tell of labors done.
And well-earned rest that came with set of sun.
'Tis hard to break the tender cord
When love has bound the heart;
We must forever part.
Dearest loved one, we must lay thee
In the peaceful grave's embrace.
But thy memory will be cherished
'Til we see thy heavenly face." K.
