ZEPHANIAH RICHMOND
In Buckland, Mass. Feb 16, Zephaniah Richmond, aged 79yrs 7 mos.
He was a native of Ashfield, and spent most of his life there and in Buckland. He united with the church in Ashfield, at the same time with his wife, about fifty years ago during the pastorate of Rev. Thomas Shepard, D.D., and always had the confidence and highest esteem of all with whom he associated. A genial, kind, young-hearted old man, unusually active for his years, he was known as a peace-maker, so honoring Christ that all will revere his memory.
In the prayer-meeting, during the two years’ acquaintance of his last pastor, he almost always directed his remarks to the young people, who were also the burden of his prayers. The charge that he gave his pastor, during his last brief illness, was, “I want that you should do all that you can for our young people.”
He died resting confidently in Christ. Five children had gone before; one son and three daughters, with his companion for fifty-six years, are left to mourn their loss, while satisfied of his great gain.
Our prayer-meeting misses one, our praise-meeting has gained one.
