By 1850 he was in Oregon involved in coastal timber industries near the Umpqua River. In 1853 he volunteered and fought in the Rogue River Indian War. In 1858 he returned to law, practicing in Portland, Oregon. Between 1852 - 53 he served in the Oregon Territorial Legislature. He was elected Governor of Oregon and served 1862 - 1866, followed by terms as Prosecuting Attorney and District Attorney's for the District of Oregon under President Ulysses S. Grant. Addison Gibbs died on December 29, 1886 in London, England where he had been representing American companies selling land in the United States. His remains were returned by an act of the Oregon Legislature and he was buried in Oregon in 1887. (bio by: RB) Family links: Spouse: Margaret M.
