Sister O'Byrne died Monday of infirmities at the convent infirmary. She was 98.
Sister O'Byrne, was born in Kellymount, Paulstown, in County Kilkenny, Ireland. She got her bachelor's and master's degrees in English from Catholic University in Washington. A member of the order of the Sisters of Charity of the Incarnate Word, she entered the convent in 1909 and took her final vows in 1916 in San Antonio.
Sister O'Byrne taught in St. Louis at Incarnate Word Academy and at Blessed Sacrament Elementary School. She did pastoral care work at Incarnate Word Hospital. She had other teaching assignments in Texas.
She retired to the Incarnate Word Convent in 1976.
