Services for Mr. Johnnie Wynn Arrington will be held at 2:00 p.m., Monday, October 4, 2010 in the Chapel of Hixson Brothers, Pineville with Dr. Daniel O'Reagan and Rev. Tim Hisaw officiating. Interment will be in Forest Lawn Memorial Park. Friends may call today at Hixson Brothers, Pineville from 5:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. and tomorrow from 8:00 a.m. until service time. Mr. Arrington, 92, of Ball passed away Friday, October 1, 2010 at Rapides Regional Medical Center, Alexandria. Mr. Arrington was born in Florien, Louisiana April 2, 1918. He is preceded in death by his wife, Beulah Delaney Arrington, his son, John "Mike" Arrington; parents, Oliver and Laura Tison Arrington; brothers, Garvis Arrington and T. O. Arrington; sisters, Pawnee Coleman and Grace Arrington. Mr. Arrington moved with his family to the Prospect area of Grant Parish at the age of 12. He graduated from Dry Prong High School and then attended LSU where he obtained a degree in Agriculture. He served in the U. S. Army and received three Battle Stars for his service in the European Theatre in the 11th Army Division, 406th Field Artillery Battalion. He was the first officer in to liberate the concentration camp at Mauthausen, Austria on May 5, 1945. After his discharge from the army with the rank of 1st Lt., Mr. Arrington began teaching agriculture at Sikes High School. He was principal of Sikes High School from 1948 until 1951. In 1951, he accepted employment with the Louisiana Department of Education as a Vocational Rehabilitation counselor. He worked for the Department of Education until his retirement in 1972 as Assistant Director of Vocational Rehabilitation. Mr. Arrington held memberships in various organizations throughout his adult life including Ward 10 Baseball League (president and coach), Civitan Club (past president). National Rehabilitation Association (life member), Mason, Shriner and served on various boards in the area including Rapides Senior Citizens, Handiwork Productions and the Rapides Rehabilitation Center. Mr. Arrington was a member of Tioga First Baptist Church since 1956 where he served as a Sunday School Teacher and Deacon for many years. Mr. Arrington also served on the Rapides Parish School Board from 1974-1978 as the representative for District A.

Those left to cherish his memory include his children, Charles E. Arrington and wife, June of Tioga, Darwin Arrington and wife, Donna of Forest Hill, Peggy Martin and husband, Leroy of Pineville and daughter-in-law, Martha Arrington of Lake Charles; eleven grandchildren and ten great grandchildren. Pallbearers will be John Michael Arrington, Ben Arrington, Thomas Arrington, Zach Arrington, William Martin, Michael Roach. Honorary pallbearers will be Aubrey Brown, Don O'Neal and Lester Mallette. The family request memorials be made to the Tioga First Baptist Church, Building Fund, P. O. Box 518, Tioga, LA 71477.
