William was the son of John Field (1725-1827) and Margaret Pearl (1750-1834). He married 1st to Mary Rodgers in 1803. They had at least the following children:

William then married 2nd to Cecelia Anderson on 24 Jan 1807 in Mason, Kentucky, USA. They had at least the following children:
