On Sunday night August 6, 1939, at 12:00 the Lord took a precious one, our husband and father, Mr. General Long, of Trigonia. He was born February 9, 1862. He leaves to mourn his death his widow, Mrs. Minnie Thompson Long; four sons, Ollie, Hartsell and Earl of Maryville and Raymond of Loudon; three daughters, Mrs. Hary Frances of Trigonia, Mrs. Lena Hitch and Mrs. Cleo Wilson of Maryville; and one step-daughter, Stella Thompson of Trigonia; thirty grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren; four sisters and one brother.
At an early age Mr. Long joined the Oakland M.E. church and attended there, always being a loyal member and a willing worker in the church.

He was sick only one week and all was done for him that loving hands could do but God called and he had to go. He was a home-lover, a devoted father a loyal church member and a good neighbor. His cheerful smile and friendly words will be remembered by all with whom he came in contact.
Services were conducted at Oakland M.E. church on August 8, 1939 by Rev. F.F. Essary of Mascot, assisted by Rev. J.R. Dykes of Maryville, the Rev. Barnett of Madisonville and the Rev. Bayer of Loudon. Pallbearers were Fred Bluford, Joe Thompson, Creed Roy, Roscoe Long, Ben Kennedy and Clarence Long. Honorary pall bearers were J.R. Pugh, G.W. Pugh, Bill Woods, H.F. Black, J.A. Cook, and Billy Jones. Flower girls were Misses Otis Lee Francis, Eleanor, Dorothy, and Mary Bell Long and Jessie Carden, Mesdames Annie Kerr, Annie Ray, Annie Mae Kennedy, Leota Long, MIldred Lane, Harper Thompson and Ruby Laymon. The body was laid to rest in the church cemetery beneath a blanket of flowers.
