ATHENA – Margaret J. Lieuallen, 82, 50844 Wildhorse Road died Nov. 7, 1988, at her home. The funeral will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Athena First Baptist Church with the Rev. John Nichols officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to the Christian Aid Center of a charity of the donor's choice.

Mrs. Lieuallen was born Nov. 1, 1916, at home on Sunnyside Road, north of Milton-Freewater, to Floyd and Mildred Shields Coffman. She grew up on the family farm on Dry Creek, attended Dry Creek Country School and graduated in 1935 from McLoughlin Union High School.

On Nov. 18, 1942, she married Ronald "Swede" Lieuallen in Milton-Freewater. They worked on the Lieuallen farm for 23 years, until her husband died. She continued to live there until her death. Throughout her life, she cooked for harvest crew and did seamstress work for many in the community. She drove bus and was a cook for the Athena School District after her husband's death on Feb. 23, 1965. She spent many summers working for Bob Winn in strawberry harvest.

She enjoyed whipping up things in the kitchen to share with others, and sharing her handiwork with the family and friends. In retirement she found joy in gardening and puttering in the yard. In recent years, she volunteered at the Umatilla County Historical Museum. Originally a member of Milton-Freewater Grace Presbyterian Church, she later joined Athena First Baptist Church and was active in the Women's Missions.

Survivors include three daughters, Lisa Parson of Athena, Jean Carter of Milton-Freewater and Lela Lieuallen of Federal Way, Wash.; two sons, Jim Lieuallen of Vancouver, Wash., and Ross Lieuallen of Tualatin, Ore.; a stepdaughter, Ronna Rickman; four brothers, Elgin Coffman of Milton-Freewater, Bob Coffman of San Diego, Jack Coffman of Denver and Tom Coffman of Myrtle Point, Ore.; two sisters, Catherine Swanson and Norma Coe, both of College Place; six grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Lindsay Parson; and a stepdaughter, Donna Skeen.
