| Birth: | Nov. 25, 1960 Washington District of Columbia District Of Columbia, USA | | Death: | Jul. 16, 1999 | Kennedy Family Figure. He was the son of 35th United States President John F. Kennedy. Born in Washington, DC, as the second child of then President-elect Kennedy and Jacqueline Bouvier Kennedy, and brother to Caroline Kennedy (Schlossberg), he is famously remembered for saluting the casket of his assassinated father during the President's funeral, which took place on his third birthday. John Kennedy Jr. spent most of his formative years and adult life in Manhattan, New York City, New York with his mother. He was an alumni of the prestigious boys preparatory school, Phillips Andover Academy, in Andover, Massachusetts and of Brown University, an Ivy League college located in Providence, Rhode Island. In 1983, he earned a Bachelor's degree in history from Brown. He went on to earn a law degree from New York University (1989). Kennedy's 1988 keynote speech at the Democratic National Convention in Atlanta, Georgia led to speculation among journalists and politics that he was being groomed to carry on the Kennedy political dynasty. However, he continued to practice law and delved into the realm of magazine publishing. He served as assistant district attorney of New York City from 1989 to 1993. In 1995, he launched the immediately popular magazine "George", a youth-oriented magazine devoted to politics and popular culture. He died along with his wife of three years, Carolyn Bessette, and her sister, Lauren, in a plane crash over the Atlantic Ocean. A pilot, Kennedy was en route to the Kennedy family home on Martha's Vineyard, Massachusetts to attend a wedding.
