For the 1850 Commerce, Oakland Co., MI census, the family of James Gamble, age 40, born in Ireland, was in the household immediately following William Gamble, age 46, born Ireland, with their surnames spelled Gambol. It seems likely they were brothers, if not cousins. By 1860, James widow, Mary Ann (Sinclair) Gamble, and family were still in Commerce, while the family of William Gamble had moved to Milford.

James and Mary's daughter Mary Eliza Gamble married Samuel Arthur, son of Samuel Arthur and Elizabeth Stewart.

The death records for both Samuel and Mary Eliza can be found on Seeking Michigan, but only list that they were buried at Birmingham, Oakland Co., MI, not naming the cemetery. Curiously, it looks like their son James was the informant for his mother's death, but the given name on her record was written as Sarah, not Mary Eliza.

Samuel Arthur and Mary Eliza Gamble’s children were James Gamble Arthur, Edwin C Arthur, Charles Fredrick Arthur, Clara Ella Arthur, Samuel Clyde Arthur, Mary Elizabeth (Arthur) Melius, and John Arthur, whose only known reference at age one was the 1880 census.
