A Life Remembered - My Brother Larry

The following information was contributed by Carole Nurmi Cummings, a Dutch descendant from the 1600s and Larry's much younger sister

Born on Columbus Day. Died on Saint Patrick's Day.

Born, a son, Lawrence Albert, to Mr. and Mrs. John Albert Nurmi of 60 De Baun Avenue, Ramsey, on October 12, at the Paterson General Hospital. Mrs. Nurmi is the fromer Betty Haring of Ridgewood.

LAWRENCE ALBERT NURMI

52, of Wellington passed away on Wednesday, March 17,1999 after a lengthy and courageous battle against cancer.


Larry was born in Paterson, New Jersey on October 12, 1946 and moved to Lake Worth with his family in 1956.

He was a 1964 graduate from Lake Worth High School. He held a B.S degree in Electrical Engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI).

Larry was a hard working and energetic person all his life. While a boy he delivered newspapers and Fuller Brush magazines, he sold magazine subscriptions and jewelry. He worked summers during his college years at an exclusive resort in Rhode Island. He had been employed from 1966-1971 at the RCA computer plant in Palm Beach Gardens. In 1972 he established Atlantic Electronic Supply(formerly Nurmi Electronic Supply ) with locations currently in West Palm Beach, Clearwater, and Lakeland. He also owns Appliance Parts Center in West Palm Beach. He was a man who loved his family and he set an example for them.

He practiced the principles that his parents instilled in him, to be hard working, honest, loyal and to be kind toward others. Larry has been involved in many acts of unselfish kindness and giving. In 1993, Larry received the Superior Public Service Award from the Commandant of the U.S. Marine Corp for his efforts in supporting the local Marine Corp Reserve Unit during their participation in Operation Desert Storm.

Larry is survived by his mother Elizabeth Haring Nurmi of Garland, Texas... his long time friend Angela Fulford of West Palm Beach. [Additional family members listed who are still living]

The family will receive their friends on Saturday & Sunday from 6-8 P.M. at the E. EARL SMITH & SON FUNERAL HOME Memory Gardens Chapel, 3041 Kirk Road, Lake Worth.

A funeral service will be held on Monday at Our Savior Lutheran Church, Lake Worth at 11:00 A.M.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Lake Worth H.S., P.O. Box 1964, Lake Worth, Fl. 33460 or to Hospice of Palm Beach County in his memory.

Gravesite Details

Thomas Allan Nurmi. Larry's brother, wanted his family to capture the morning sun in their final resting place. He placed his grandfather, grandmother, father and brother at eye level facing the rays of the morning sun.
