Robert G. Rix, 76 of Kennard, died Saturday, Nov. 11, 2006, at Immanuel Hospital in Omaha.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 15, at the Church of the Nazarene in Fremont. Interment will be in Prairie View Cemetery.
Visitation will begin at noon Tuesday, Nov. 14, at Campbell-Aman Funeral Home with the family receiving friends from 6 to 8 p.m.
Robert George Rix was born Nov. 14, 1929, in Kennard to Henry and Lena (Klotz) Rix. He was baptized at Emmaus Lutheran Church in Kennard and confirmed May 28, 1944, also at Emmaus Lutheran.
He graduated from Kennard High School in 1947, and became a partner with his father in farming and livestock.
He was a veteran of the Korean War, serving in the United States Army from September 1951 until September 1953.
He later worked at Hormel in Fremont, and at Omaha Steel for a short time before returning to farming and cattle feeding in the spring of 1954.
On Aug. 4, 1962, he married Beverly Giblin at the Baptist Presbyterian Church in Valley. The following September, the couple moved to a farm two and a half miles southwest of Kennard. The couple later joined St. John's Lutheran Church in Bennington, and were members for 25 years, during which time he served on various committees. On Jan. 1, 1995, he became a member of the Church of the Nazarene in Fremont, where he served on the church board and property committees.
He was a past recipient of the Papio Soil and Water Conservation District's certificate of merit for having made outstanding conservation achievements; was a past member of the Kennard American Legion Post No. 366; vice president of the Prairie View Cemetery Association, charter member of the National Cattlemen's Association; and member of the Fremont Golden K Kiwanis Club.
He loved attending the Omaha Lancers, Omaha Knights and UNO Mavericks hockey games.
He is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Robert Dean and Julie Rix of Omaha, two daughters and a son-in-law Julie Ann Rix of Kennard, and Joni Lea and Eric Eitzmann of Kennard; four grandchildren and three step-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Beverly, and one sister.
Memorials are suggested to the Church of the Nazarene or the American Lung Association.
