"HOMEGOING CELEBRATION FOR DEACON JAMES CLARENCE DOYLE SR"
We pause today to shed a tear, in memory of one so dear. His many words of kindness and his tender grace will be remembered by many of us. HE WAS A GOOD MAN.
Deacon James Clarence Doyle was born in Plaqumine, Louisiana on January 20, 1912 to the union of Nicholas and Caroline Bell-Doyle.
At an early age he was converted, united with the church, and was baptized. Afterwhich,he spent many fruitful years in the Master's vineyard.
He came to California in 1951 and in December of that year united with Evergreen Baptist Church - Reverend J.L. Richard, Pastor. He was liberal with his time, his talent and his money, for he loved his church and his pastor. He never turned away the outstretched hand of the poor and the needy; he was a co-laborer in God's vineyard. He had an encouraging word and a friendly smile for all. His gentle nature harbored no harshness, but radiated love, cheerfulness, patience, kindness and hospitality. He was always patient, regardless of what his physical suffering might have been. He never complained, never made any noise about things, never called attention to his doings. His life has touched almost every auxiliary of our church for a number of years, he served as co-chairman of the Deacon Board - he worked in the Training Union, the Botherhood Union - The Sr. Missionary Society and The January Calendar Club. He could always be found every week in mid-week prayer worship. And for more than 20 years, he served as treasurer of the Benevolent Fund Committee. Lastly, he always attended Sunday School!
One of his favorite chapters in the Bible was, "Matthew 18:1-4" and This old account was settled A Long Time Ago." On the last Sunday he was present in worship service, that song was sung and he rejoiced in the God of his salvation. How much we shall miss his bright happy disposition in our church is impossible to express. He departed this life Tuesday morning July 28, 1981 in Peralta Hospital.
He leaves to mourn his homegoing: A loving and devoted wife, Mrs. Alberta Doyle: one son, two daughters - Emelda Retha Doyle-McKinney, one step-son, two brothers- Herbert and Issac Doyle, one sister - Mrs. Caroline Doyle-Brown, a daughter in law, seven grandchildren, and one great grandchild and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
He has not served who gathers gold
Nor has he served whose life is told
In selfish battles he has won
Or deed of skill that he has done,
But he has served who now and then
Has helped along his fellow men.
