Ithaca, N.Y., April 19. – Cleveland Abbe Jr., scientist and editor of scientific publications, died of heart disease yesterday. He was 62 years old. Funeral services will be held at his home here Saturday afternoon, with burial in Lake View Cemetery.
Since 1930, Mr. Abbe was scientific editor of volumes of the George F. Baker Non-Resident Lectureship in Chemistry at Cornell. His career included the editorship of The Monthly Weather Review of the United States Weather Bureau and he had been associate editor of The Scientific American Supplement in New York and of The Engineering and Mining Journal.
He studied at Harvard, John Hopkins, and the Imperial University of Vienna and taught in Western Maryland College and at the City College in New York.
He is survived by his widow, one daughter, Miss Elfriede Martha Abbe, one son, Dr. Ernst Cleveland Abbe of Columbia University, and one brother, Dr. Truman Abbe of Washington, D.C., a physician.

861. CLEVELAND⁹ ABBE, JR., son of Cleveland⁸ and Frances Martha (Neal) Abbe, born in Washington, D. C, March 25, 1872; resides in Washington. He was graduated from Harvard College, A.B. (cum laude), 1894; A.M., 1896; Ph.D., Johns Hopkins, 1898. He held scholarships in Harvard and Johns Hopkins, and a fellowship also in the latter; was acting professor of natural sciences at Winthrop Normal and Industrial College, S. C, 1899-1901; studied in Vienna, Paris, and Berlin, 1901-3; was special assistant on the Maryland Geological Survey, 1896-1901, and geologic aid on the United States Geological Survey, 1903-6; entered the United States Weather Bureau, 1906, and has been Assistant or Acting Editor of the Monthly Weather Review, 1908-10, 1914-16; Editor since August 5, 1916.
Has written a number of geographical and climatological papers, and prepared many translations from foreign languages.
Married at Wolfenbüttel, Braunschweig, Germany, April 12, 1903, FRIEDA (Conradine Auguste) DAUER, second child of Conrad and Friederike (Kirchhoff) Dauer of that place, born in Braunschweig, November 10, 1878.
