Motion Picture Editor. Best known for her long association with director Quentin Tarantino, she received Academy Award nominations for "Pulp Fiction" (1994) and "Inglourious Basterds" (2009). Sally JoAnne Menke was born on Long Island, and received her degree in film from New York University's Tisch School of the Arts. Her first prominent Hollywood assignment was co-editing the action hit "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" (1990). She then joined forces with Tarantino for his directing debut, "Reservoir Dogs" (1992), and went on to edit all his big screen features through 2009, including "Four Rooms" ("The Man from Hollywood" segment, 1995), "Jackie Brown" (1997), "Kill Bill: Volume 1 (2003), "Kill Bill: Volume 2" (2004), and "Death Proof" (2007). Among the other noted filmakers she worked with were Oliver Stone ("Heaven & Earth," 1993) and Billy Bob Thornton ("All the Pretty Horses," 2000). Menke's body was discovered along a hiking trail in Griffith Park, where she had gone to walk her dog during a record-breaking heat wave in Los Angeles.
