He was attached to the Special Forces Support Group deployed with the UK contingent of NATO forces in Afghanistan.
Cpl Thomas was killed when the vehicle he was driving was struck by an improvised explosive device in the Garmsir district of Helmand province.
Aged 24, Cpl Thomas was from Penllergaer, Swansea, Wales. He was widely respected and admired for his professionalism and natural leadership. A military spokesman paid tribute to his deep competence as a soldier and a vehicle mechanic. "Tommo" was also remembered as a remarkable sportsman with a ready smile. He was an ardent supporter of Swansea City FC.
Cpl Thomas leaves behind his mother Beverley and stepfather Robert (Robbie) Michael, father David Thomas, grandparents Raymond and Christine, other relatives and many friends.
Funeral with full military honours was held on October 18, 2010 at St. Mary's Parish Church, Swansea.
