Mr. Charles Riley Mallard, age 76, died Saturday at the East Georgia Regional Medical Center. The native and lifelong resident of Bulloch County was the son of the late George Washington Mallard and Wilma Akins Mallard. He was a 1953 graduate of Statesboro High School and a veteran of the U.S. Marines serving during the Korean War. Following his military service, Charles returned to Bulloch County and began his 45 year career in road construction, retiring in 1998 from Ashland Company as a foreman. He was an avid fisherman who enjoyed the outdoors and his fishing trips to the river. He was of the Baptist faith. Mr. Mallard was preceded in death by his wife, Pat Blythe Mallard.
Surviving are two brothers and sisters-in-law, Hugh and Jean Mallard of Statesboro and Carl and Helen Mallard of Ogden, Utah, and a sister and brother-in-law, Sue and Dan Schryver of Ann Arbor, Michigan. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services will be Tuesday at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of Joiner-Anderson Funeral Home in Statesboro with Elder W.I. Tidwell officiating.
Interment will be in the Bulloch Memorial Gardens.
