Birth: Jun. 27, 1796
Death: Jan. 18, 1863
Pennsylvania, USA

Per his brother: My brother Hinman, graduated at Princeton, a ripe scholar, & was highly complimented by the faculty, not only for his excellent scholarship, but also for the noble part he took in opposing the treat rebellion in that college, in which the doors were piled up for fuel, & a professor came near losing his life by a cake of ice thrown from an upper story. As an educator, he was highly complimented by the legislature of one of the States, & a US Senator pronounced his system of education the best in the land, & warmly recommended him to public confience. Ill health prevented his laboring in the missionary field, &, requiring life in the open air, he became a civil engineer, was employed by the State of Pennsylvania in superintending its public works, was pronounced one of the best mathematicians & engineers in the State, had a high reputation for generosity, giving a large portion of his salary to the poor; but, through exposure & too severe application to his work, he sunk to an early grave.
