Obituary of M. J. Dorsey
The many friends of M. J. Dorsey were shocked to hear of his death last Tuesday [June 8, 1926] morning. He was taken suddenly ill with pneumonia on Wednesday evening, a week before his death and it seemed that medical aid would do no good, as he had not fully recovered from an attack of pneumonia which he had last December.

Martin James Dorsey was born in Madison, Wis., March 20, 1861. He came to Iowa when 21 years of age. He was united in marriage on the 29th day of August in the year 1885 to Miss Emma Olive Jones of Spencer, Iowa. To this union were born six children: Mabel, Willie, Frank, Edna and Pearle. Mabel died in 1886 at the age of three months, Willie died in 1912 at the age of 23 years and one little girl died in infancy. The living children are Edna, now Mrs. Geo. Stammer of Estherville; Pearl, now Mrs. Joe Olivas of Denver, Colo.; and Frank of Estherville. Besides his wife and three children he leaves six grand children.

Mr. Dorsey lived in southern Iowa a number of years and came from there to Emmet county in the year of 1900 where he lived for 17 years. In the year of 1917 he moved with his family to Bent county, Colorado. Having lived there nine years, he came back to Estherville, Iowa, Mar., 1926 and they have been staying at the home of their daughter, Mrs. Stammer.

Mrs. Dorsey united with the Christian church in August, 1913. He was a Christian man, always stood up for the right. He was kind hearted and true, a friend to everyone. Not an enemy that he knew of. He always held God's name in reverence.

He was left an orphan at the age of 2 years and his path was not strewn with roses. He had worked hard all of his life, always thinking about the welfare of others before himself. A most devoted husband and father.

Mr. Dorsey has been a member of the Modern Woodman of America Lodge for the past 26 years at Wallingford, Iowa, Camp No. 740. His body was laid to rest in Oak Hill cemetery but his soul has gone to the home where there is no more weeping, no more sighing, no more sickness, no more dieing. Funeral services were held at the Christian church at 2 o'clock. Friends from a distance to attend the funeral were, Robert Jones of Udell, Iowa; J. W. Jones, of Drakesville, Iowa; Mrs. A. H. Whisler, Miss Mary Whisler and Ray Whisler of Moulton, Iowa; M. M. Jones and family, Harley M. Jones and family, Mr. and Mrs. Erle Taylor and babe and A. C. England, all of Spencer, Iowa.

One daughter, Mrs. Joe Olivas was unable to attend the funeral. Mr. Dorsey will be sadly missed by his many friends.

Yes Dear Father, you have left us.
But the parting won't be long
Because we'll endeavor to meet you
In that bright and Heavenly home.
(Estherville Enterprise, Estherville, IA, June 16, 1926)
