Elizabeth's birthdate is Jul. 11, 1839.
Mrs. Elizabeth D. Muzzey, wife of George E. Muzzey, died at her home near this village Monday forenoon, after a lingering illness. She was a daughter of Alpheus Preston and her childhood was spent in Orange on what is known as Tuttle Hill. Later the family moved to this village to the house where James Morrill now lives. After her marriage to Mr. Muzzey she opened a millinery store in a small building where the Canaan Inn stood which she conducted with such success that she soon built the two story building in which Mrs. Holt in now doing business.

Here she conducted a prosperous business for many years, and after retiring built the large summer boarding house which she named Fairview, which she has had filled with boarders every season until failing health obliged her to relinquish the business.

She was an active and successful business woman, interested in many good works, and a friend to all in need. Although she had no children, excepting an adopted daughter, she was a favorite with the young people for whom she showed a special affection. Her age was two months less than 69 years, and she is survived by a husband and her adopted daughter, Mrs. Lilla B. Sargent.

The funeral took place from the late home Wednesday afternoon, Rev. Mr. Taylor officiating. Carey Smith was funeral director and the bearers were Harris, Bernie and Wallace Goss and W. H. Martelle. Vocal selections were rendered by Mrs. Donna B. Gilman and Miss Sarah B. Morse of Franklin. The body reposed in a beautiful half couch casket, and the features were lifelike and peaceful. A wealth of floral offerings surrounded the casket, which included several elegant pieces. Interment was in the Wells cemetery.
