1 February 1908, page 4 (edited):

Miss Ann Jane Howard was born in County Limerick, Ireland sixty-eight years ago. At the age of seventeen she came to America and in 1864 she braved the pioneer hardships with relatives and friends in an overland trip to Virginia City, Montana. During the year 1865 she was married to Mr. John Hines, with whom as a constant companion she has fulfilled the bravest obligation and tenderest affections of wife and mother. Mr. and Mrs. Hines came to this part of of the state in 1868 and for forty years, amid the trials and hardships of pioneer life, not a word of complaint or regret has been offered by her. To know Mrs. Hines was to feel drawn toward her by the strongest ties of friendship. She was not only kind and considerate, but possessed those qualifications of womanhood which at all times cast a glow of congeniality among her associates. She was an ardent and consistent member of the Catholic church, and ever ready to perform her share of the responsibilities connected with it. She died at the family home in Townsend at 11:45 a.m. Monday, January 27th. The funeral ceremony was conducted at the Catholic church in town at 11:00 o'clock a.m. Wednesday, Father Baten of Butte officiating. On account of the absence of a son, George Hines, the burial did not take place until later in the week. Mrs. Hines leaves to mourn her death a husband, Mr. John Hines, Sr. and sons and daughters in relation to their respective ages as follow: Mrs. Ed Moran of Fromburg, Montana, George Hines of Strathmore, Alberta, Canada, John Hines, Jr. of Fromburg, Mrs. A. W. Tinsley of Fromburg, Mrs. Pat Croak, Mrs. John Whaley and Mrs. Wm. Nield of the Missouri valley.
