Founder of Toastmasters International. In 1924, at the Santa Ana, CA, YMCA, Smedley created a group dedicated to helping each other become better communicators and leaders. They chose to call themselves "Toastmasters". From that humble beginning, the group grew to become the world's largest non-profit educational organization with over 8000 clubs in over 60 countries worldwide (including Antarctica).
