J.J. Uptegrafft was born in Michigan, Feberuary 12, 1857, and died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Oaks, 10 miles northeast of Brewster, Friday, May 20th 1921 at the age of 64 years, 2 months, and 25 days. He was united in marriage to Miss Ida M. Smith at Cason, Minnesota and to this union were born ten children of whom seven are still living, four daughters, Hattie M., Carrie B., Effie N., and Florence C., three sons, Edwin M., Jesse B., and William G. Two daughters and one son having passed away in infancy.
As his wife passed on before him in 1909, he has lived with his daughter up until the time of his death. Mr. Uptegrafft was a man of good moral character and was well liked by everyone who knew him.
Besides his children he leaves to mourn his loss, on sister of McLane, Nebraska, and two brothers, Ellias of Boone, Colorado, and John of Milaca, Minnesota, and a number of friends.
The funeral services were held at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Oaks, at 2p.m. Sunday afternoon and the remains were laid to rest in the Brewster cemetery. Rev. C.E. Nash officiating.
The burial plot he is buried in is owned by Harry Oaks.
